Keep your little ones safe this Halloween while ‘trick or treating’

  • Young children should be accompanied by an adult when out trick or treating. If children are old enough to go out on their own, why not plan a trick or treat route for them so you know they are in a relatively safe area and you know where they are going to be.
  • Older children could take a mobile phone with them in case they need to contact an adult.
  • Take a torch with you, evenings are very dark this time of year and it can be difficult to see where you are walking and if there are potholes for example.
  • Wear comfy shoes and take a coat, it could be very chilly!
  • Do not knock at any unlit houses. Not everyone celebrates or wants to get involved with Halloween. Anyone who welcomes trick or treaters will have lights and decorations outside their house so you know you can knock.
  • Be considerate and tap on the door rather than ringing the doorbell, parents may be trying to get young children to sleep and constant doorbell ringing will significantly hinder that, and they may be less enthusiastic to give you treats!

    Happy, smiley pumpkins!

  • Check the treats and sweets you are given before you eat them. Even better, get an adult to check them before you eat them. Do not eat anything that looks as if it may have been tampered with, there are some unpleasant people out there.
  • Trick or treat in groups, do not go on your own as this could be very dangerous.
  • Always be kind to the people who give you treats and remember to say thank you for whatever they choose to give you.
  • Be kind to the group you are trick or treating with, perhaps some may have more sweets and treats that others so consider sharing them out so it is fair.
  • And most importantly have fun with your friends! 🙂

This post is not intended to be an exhaustive list, just a few tips to bear in mind when you are having fun!  Enjoy!
