As you can probably guess the majority of the silver paw print jewellery we create at Cheeky Little Prints features paw prints from cats and dogs. However, we have created beautiful jewellery with the paw prints of other animals as well including several guinea pigs and a mouse. The process of capturing paw prints from cats, dogs, guinea pigs, hamsters and mice is effectively the same and involves our easy to use, no mess, inkless paw print kits.

Once you have captured your pet’s unique paw prints, simply snap a photo of them on your phone and upload them to our upload your paw prints page. We find using the website browser Google Chrome when uploading paw prints the best. Your furbaby’s paw prints will be checked and any furry bits tidied up so you have a clearer paw print. If we have several paw prints from your furry friend you will be asked to choose your favourite paw print and then your special jewellery will be created.

Wednesday 21st October is Reptile Awareness Day and you might be wondering what that has to do with silver paw print jewellery! Well, reptiles are one of the more unusual types of pets that people keep, although they are getting more popular. Reptile Awareness Day is an opportunity to educate yourself on these incredible creatures, which include snakes, lizards, tortoises, turtles and crocodiles! Reptiles have specific features such as scales and bony plates for their skin. You can find out all sorts of fascinating facts on reptiles on the National Geographic website.

A rare opportunity to capture an unusual paw print

Many years ago we used to set up a regular pop up shop in Camp Hopson Department Store in Newbury, West Berkshire taking prints from babies and children and also handing out inkless paw print kits so pet owners could capture their furry friends paw print in silver. One day, one of the staff members Beth approached me and asked if I could capture her pet tortoise Weasley’s paw print in a silver charm for her “Pandora style” bracelet.

I had never been asked this before and had no idea how I was going to do this but I could see Beth really wanted to capture her special tortoise’s paw print in silver so she could keep a part of him with her wherever she went. Beth shared a special bond with Weasley just as other pet parents do with their dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs etc. I explained to Beth I had never done this before but I was willing to give it my best shot. So we arranged for Beth to bring Weasley to the next pop up shop in store.

A crowd began to form

The day arrived, I had set up the pop up shop and part way through the day Beth arrived with Weasley in his container, he was smaller than I had imagined although I didn’t really know what to expect. I soon realised this was going to be tricky as tortoise’s have lots of little spikes on their feet, so getting a print using the inkless wipes and paper was not going to work. A crowd began to form, well it’s not every day you see a tiny cute tortoise in the middle of a department store! I attempted to take a print of the texture of Weasley’s shell with the inkless paper and wipes as well, but that didn’t go too well either.

Thinking on my feet I decided to see if it would work pressing Weasley’s foot straight into the silver clay, just as I would if I was taking a human fingerprint. It worked! Beth was over the moon as the pattern that was made by all the individual spikes on Weasley’s foot were unique to him. That day was very special, Beth had made some wonderful memories with Weasley in her quest to have a keepsake that she could carry with her and treasure forever.
